He really is - even more so in person.

He is the cutest little land shark evah.

Sadly, the teething toys didn't arrive in time, so am improvising with his plushie toys, cardboard tubes and a rolled up puppy blanket.  He would, naturally, prefer to use my hand, slipper, dressing gown or anything else that comes near his maw when the devil is upon him, but we're working on that

How is it a month since I posted about choosing Clive??

i picked him up evening of 23rd Dec.
So we are now on day 2
He's ludicrously cute.

when I picked him up the woman was still at work and had left hubby in charge of kids, dogs  and puppies.
conseqeuntly he didn't get his final bath
yesterday morning, he did a poo, jumped thriough it to get to me and then sat back into it to scratch .... so we attempted a bath.

i would say it was a partial success - i think of the two of us, I was wetter. Not sure I got all the shampoo washed out of him. Drying a wriggling pup who wants to play was an adventure.

i forgot (sort of) just how full on they are at this age lol.

here's a pic of him, still a bit damp after his mini bath

Yeah - 13.5 years gone in a blink!

The house feels very strange right now.

Thanks all - you were there for his beginnings

I'm okay - I think. I am looking at puppies. It's too soon to actually go for it - but I am easing myself in

They are, they are. 13 and a half years, went in a blink.

He did well for a lad with bad hips.

Carrot passed away today, around midday.
He was helped on his way to the Rainbow bridge by a very caring vet.
He was at home, with me and mum came by as well.

i am broken.
and i feel guilty for shouting at him so much lately when he wouldn't strop barking, or when he kept tipping his food onto the carpet
I feel guilty for all the times i told him to go and settle, because i just wanted to watch tv or youtube and didn't have the mental energy to engage after work, and walks and meals.

I'd give anything to have those evenings back.

but i also know that he had lovely times too.

i miss him so much already. i am dreading bed time.

that last post should have read 24 hours, not 4 ;P

He's still in - and likely to be for a few more days but all the signs are still good.
They're taking no chances

Oh man, I envy you, getting to watch it for the first time. Make sure you have no distractions when you watch the last episode of season 1. It is a fucking doozy.

oh it's a quiet house type of watch all the way through so far. looking forward to the finale. I'm on ep 5 now.  I love everything about it. it's so atmospheric.

thanks guys. I appreciate the support.

He's back in hospital with an infection, but looks like they have caught it in time to avoid anything major. they're keeping him in on a drip for 2 hours then will reassess but so far so good.

i called this an update, but i cant remember how much of this i talked about when i mentioned the situation in an unrelated thread

It's been such a strange few months. Every now and again the enormity of what he has been through and is going through hits me full force and it takes my breath away for a moment. Sometimes, i just get this flash of an image - him in the hospital, the look in his eyes, or the way his face used to look, his familiar quirks and mannerisms. Sometimes it sets off a mini-panic attack. Sometimes it just breaks my heart.

He's still here though - he's still him.  As bad as this shit show has been it could have been so much worse.

Well - we're nearing the halfway point to this year and i can honestly say 2025 has not been kind thus far.

On the plus side - he is alive, recovering, doesn't need a kidney transplant (was a real concern at one point) and his dominant, left hand is the one affected the least: he has lost one finger and a couple of finger tips on his left I think. Also - he has been left with a few toe stumps which means he should eventually be able to manage with ordinary footwear with an insert rather than the giant balance boots (currently he's in giant neoprene protective balance boots that fit over the bandages)

He's been able to go outside in the garden for short spells,  when the weather was warm.
His hand exercises are going well - he is able to do more - though the sensitivity in his skin is making that hard work

He has more days now where he is engaged in the conversation and watching tv shows and just generally more involved.  Overall he seems in relatively good spirits most times i see him. He has put up a decent show of being ok  most of the time since he got out of intensive care, even when he was still on the high dependency ward, but it's less forced now i think.  in the hospital it was almost a  feverish humour - now a bit more like his usual dark humour

On the not so plus side - he's pretty much down to stumps on his right hand, with i think just one mostly intact finger, but that finger was bending  wrong  so the joint has been affected at some point.

- He's looking at probably a year of several reconstructive surgeries to deal with the damage to his nose, lips and palate.

He's still on heavy duty painkillers, antibiotics and other meds.

He's having to retrain the nerves in his skin because they're jangling at every change in temperature, or air flow or contact with new textures etc.

Eating and drinking is hard for him - and also  just generally, most of the time he has to wear a napkin or tissue pressed against his mouth to stop from drool

Fun fact I learned the other day: nearly all of the developed nations that have single-payer healthcare instituted those systems in the 1930s as a response to the Great Depression. The US government attempted to do it back then, too, and the key reason they couldn't get it through was that it would have created racially-integrated hospitals. Bigots were so determined to avoid sharing a building with a black person--or being a white doctor forced to treat black patients--that they killed a program they otherwise were widely in favor of.

the Audible app is doing my head in. the most recent update has left it so unstable. so annoying whne you are totally immersed in the story and then it goes silent.
