WWII Airstrips

During WWII the US built airstrips on any land available as they leapfrogged Island by Island.
After the war most of those airstrips were abandoned with a few partially maintained for local use.
It seems the last couple years the USAF have been refurbishing many of these far east airbases.

Re: WWII Airstrips

Here I thought the next war would be push buttons and ICBMs.

It is.  American Pacific facilities are not hardened.  For example, virtually everything in Guam could be taken out by one missile. US suddenly realized even navy ships are easy victims before they get anywhere near Taiwan.  Solution.  Spread out all military facilities on every available island.

Especially since right wing extremists in China have declared they will attack Taiwan maybe in 2027.  And (unfortunately) Xi is now paying more attention to them.  Justified by what he sees in Trump.  And so many Americans who want to make adversaries of other nations.  Same type people who loved it when we massacred some 50,000 Americans in Vietnam.  Rather than learn how to work (cooperate) with other nations.

Same problem exists in Iran.  They will now have a nuclear bomb.  Because of what Trump did (multiple times) to harm those relations.

How many times must moderates in Iran try to restore friendly relations with the US.  Only to be rebuffed by an extremist.  Who was even 10 minute away from launching a unilateral (unjustified) attack on Iran - to wag the dog.

Guam is now a front line bunker in a potential war.
