CAIRO (AP) — Egyptian authorities impounded a massive cargo vessel that blocked the Suez Canal last month amid a financial dispute with its owner, the canal chief and a judicial official said Tuesday.Lt. Gen. Osama Rabie said the hulking Ever Given would not be allowed to leave the country until a compensation amount is settled on with the vessel’s Japanese owner, Shoei Kisen Kaisha Ltd.“The vessel is now officially impounded,” he told Egypt’s state-run television late Monday. “They do not want to pay anything.”There was no immediate comment from the vessel’s owner.

Re: The boat is stuck again.

There is a good chance Egyptian pilots caused the mess in the first place.
I hope there is not much perishable stuff on board.
Could money be the problem?

Seems that the Egyptians are claiming the ship lost electrical power just before the SNAFU.

That confirms a press leak during the mess by one of the crew.

If it was a maintenance issue, it's all on them and their insurance.  If it's because maintenance wasn't done, it's all theirs.

Clears that up.

Re: The boat is stuck again.

The wind force on the side of that ship was at least four times the force on a full rigged sailing ship with 5000 sq ft of sail.
The insurance company has objected to a claim by the canal of $300 million loss of reputation and $300 million dislodgement bonus, in addition to legitimate expenses/losses.
Not only is the ship impounded the crew is hostage also and may be for years.
With over 20,000 shipping containers there must be some ruined cargo by now.

Hostage crew kicks back, eats, gets paid.

Not that simple, sometimes the company/owners just walk away, or change crews and they never get paid. It happens frequently because it's all a matter of profit and loss. Sometimes it's cheaper to buy another ship than rescue the old one and pay the crew.
