AI, Robots & Automation

Why would Hyundai buy 80% of Boston Dynamics worth $1.1 Billion dollars? Sell robodogs with their cars?
Maybe to open markets BD and their owners refused to deal with.
Some a speculating the target for expansion is smart robots targeting these jobs.

I'm doubtful some like Registered Nurse can be done, but others are possible and that's 32 million in just this country.
And they're worried about Mexicans.

Re: AI, Robots & Automation

Car companies are major robot customers and researchers.  Asimo is a Honda robot.

That is never the purpose of innovation.  Even though socialists and finance people will foolishly rationalize it.  Companies that are growing (patriotic) implement innovation to expand their businesses as well as enhance their core businesses

Why did GE (an electric company) because a major provider of locomotives, thyristors, plastics, white appliances, nuclear power, aircraft engines, chalks and other construction materials, pumps, spacecraft, radio and TV communication, mainframe computers, refrigeration, sophisticated medical diagnostic equipment, ceramics,, etc?  Back then, GE was run by people who innovate.

Why did GM become a major supplier of air conditioners, generators, semiconductors, kitchen appliances, railroad equipment, airplanes, etc?  Again, back then, GM was into innovation resulting in growth.

Bill and Dave bought into hundreds of other industries.to become a major supplier in those markets.

In every case, once a business school graduate took over, they used their ignorance to sell off product lines they did not understand.  As Carly Fiorina, et al did to create so much destruction to HP.   Halted innovation.  Made profits by rationalizing that new industries and innovation was bad.

How did 3M, a mining company, end up in completely different businesses to become the market leader or creator of those new markets?  They innovated by doing things that were not their core businesses.

Companies that are into AI and robotics are simply expanding their markets.  Honde was only a motor cycle manufacturer.  But they did not use myopia promoted by business school concepts.  They innovated into so many other industries.

What does Lexan plastics have to do with electric power generation?

When Glldden Paint was innovative, they created a successful line of foods in competition with Heinz.   As well as latex paint. Even created cortisone that is essential in medicine today.  What does any of that have to do with paints?  That is what innovative (patriotic American) companies do.

Robot were never about destroying jobs.  If robots are not making people more productive, then those jobs are destroyed.  Lost.  Robots are simply another tool so that more of those jobs get saved or created.  Any job that does not see massive innovation in ten years means that company will go running to extremist politicians (left and right) for protection from the myth called unfair competition.

Robots are potential tool to save and even create more of those jobs.  That has always been the lesson from history.

Re: AI, Robots & Automation

I like the fact that there is a planet, in our own solar system, that is populated, entirely, by robots.

It's Mars, btw.

Re: AI, Robots & Automation

A massive civilization lives underground.  Is capturing and learning our best techologies.  Will use those to create an invading robot army.  The real war of the worlds.

We will realiize it is happening when Trump says it is true.

Re: AI, Robots & Automation

Is that why the Mars Rover is patented by Cal Tech?
Who put up the money to design and build it?
Who are they afraid will copy it?
