Get them to the school no matter what it takes. A blizzard? Just pack another arm load of wood.
Fortunately for the horses, not so much for the kids, northern Maine is getting warmer.

Looks like a bump out in front for the drivers legs but I hope his butt is inside.
If not I guess there would be another adult inside tending the stove.
These kids grow up around wood stoves so maybe just older kids for that.

I think I remember that pic from the Before Times. Seems like it was a fishing shanty, or something. Couldn't bet on it, though.

If it was a fishing shack it should have been out on the ice long before that much snow on the ground.
But it could well be a former fishing shack, or one pressed into service because of the heavy snow.
The kids in northern Maine were pretty spread out so they only walked to school if it was uphill both ways.
