OMG OMG OMG
*Squeeeee!*
Ahem.
So, yea ... the next showrunner is going to be Russel T. Davies
I am very excited about this.

This is good. In a perfect world, I'd choose Moffat, but RTD is pretty awesome news. I'm hoping he won't bring back the excessive use of theatrical gels.
Big question is: who will the next doctor be and will Missy return?
Offline
I'd love Moffatt to return but it's too soon - RTD has been away from Who (except as a viewer) for long enough to be able to come at it fresh.
Oh I would love Missy to return. Hands down my favourite incarnation of the Master. Though I quite like the current incarnation.
What I would like to see, in a parallel reality is the current Doctor and Master with a different writer and overall aesthetic

Yes. I really feel Jodie was shortchanged.

I know it will never happen, but I'd love to see more of Christopher Eccleston.
He had a real Tom Baker vibe, slightly sinister and off-putting.
Offline
Yeah - I'd love to see Eccleston do more - Ibelieve he's done / doing some audio for Big Finish
Oh and Tom Baker with modern production standards would be amazing

He played a slightly twisted American preacher in "The Leftovers," one of my favorite series of the last decade.

He was great in the leftovers, as was the whole cast. Such a great show. Some of it was filmed in Hastings on Hudson, a town I know well because crazy-pants, AKA The Previous Administration, hailed from there.

Oh I loved him in that show. Didn't click with me at first - I am so familiar with his usual accent that it really threw me when he opened his mouth and an American accent came out P
Once I had got over the shock, I thought he was great

Same. it was on odd American accent, but it was very consistent and believable.

Anyone watching the current series of Doctor Who?
Offline
I am. Enjoying it so far.

I have mixed feelings about it - there's stuff I really dislike and there's stuff I really like. Loving the main villains, Swarm and Azure - they are creepy AF

Last episode was a bit too technbabbly for my taste, but I'm used to it so it didn't detract too much.

Still enjoying it even though I like the weeping angels less every time they appear.
Offline
I thought this gave the angels short shrift- not enough time given to building a sense of menace and unease

I wonder if the new Doctor is going to be in short shorts for long.... at least until Christmas, I suppose.

I'm fine with this; Romana picked a face she'd seen before in the original series, and the new era Doctor did it with Capaldi, not to mention the Tenant redux (plus him eventually going back to Tom Baker some day). But I hate the rapid Doctor turnover, and now it's exacerbated by the shorter seasons. I barely feel like Gatwa's tenure has started.
That said, I suspect this will be a short-lived stunt, and the Doctor will settle on a different face after a bit. I'm fine with that, but when they do pick the actual replacement (or if I'm wrong about this being temporary), I hope they stick with them for at least 5 years.

I thought Billie Piper was fantastic as the companion character Rose Tyler. I just don’t think she can top that in the Dr. Who series and probably has no way to go but down in esteem for her performance there.

This thread got me curious, because I watched all the episodes that were shown on BBC America. I was the typical I DVR'd everything and watched it later, so until a few minutes ago I didn't know all the Doctor Who episodes moved to Disney+. Which I know now that move occured 2023, so I now have a situation. Is it worth going back or do I wait until the next doctor?
Offline
Going back to the first Doctor from the 60s? Or going back to 2023? If the latter, then it's a no brainer, do that. We don't know when the next season will come out; you'll have plenty of time to get through them.
If the former, that will heavily depend on your tolerance for the slower pace and janky effects of over half a century ago.
Offline
Hey, those janky effects are legendary.

I loved them, but some people just can't get past stuff like that.
