Re: Chinese EV Vehicles on Alibaba

I like the emphasis on utility and practicality of those.
It is not really al new concept.
A winery I worked at used electric forklifts starting in the 70's or before.
They were quiet and non-polluting in the indoor warehouses.
They did need a lot of distilled water for the substantial battery packs.

Funny:  I had to re-login today for the first time in a while.  It worked perfectly here (on IE Explorer) but turned me down on Google Chrome as usual.

Re: Chinese EV Vehicles on Alibaba

Flint, I have no idea what that pricing is about, that's what was on their price page.
suspect acre doesn't mean the same to the Chinese that it does to us.
Here's a couple more.

Re: Chinese EV Vehicles on Alibaba

They have a way to go to get them certified road legal in this country. No matter how good they are without that DOT stamp fugetaboutit.

Re: Chinese EV Vehicles on Alibaba

Oh, the cars will be acceptable but it's politics. The seatbelts must be made in a DOT approved factory. Same for the tires,  mirrors, lug nuts, and even the rearview camera. That's not an easy row to hoe, it's expensive and a daunting gauntlet through the red tape where it's easy to get shot down without a logical explanation.
The building tension is making it even more difficult, plus it looks like China may financially/politically implode soon.
I can imagine the politicians and big money will work it out eventually, but of course we the people will have no input nor benefit.

Buick, Chevrolet, Cadillac, Ford, Audi, BMW, and Mercedes have all built plants using joint-ventures in China, as have Toyota and Mazda. Tesla is the only one not a joint venture.

Just saw an ad for the Volvo Polestar 2

That's a Chinese car company selling a car made in China, I would not have known that before today

I remember when I first heard of the Polestar a couple years ago.  I was gobsmacked to read that Volvo announced that they would end production of all internal combustion engines.  Wait, whaaat??!!

Not Alibaba but Chinese and partly EV.

GM says it's ok because they didn't us any trademarked names or logos.
Yeah, like they're going to risk pissing off the powers that be in the world's largest car market.

Detailed info on Jalopnik about ordering, assembling, driving one of these.  They seem pretty pleased with what they got.

It's not a car, it's a toy. You can register it and drive it on the road. On the track he said he almost got it up to 20 mph. The battery range is claimed to be 28 miles so a max of 14 miles from home. That should be doable when you can't go on the road. The price of $1230 plus at least that much for shipping is an expensive toy.

Re: Chinese EV Vehicles on Alibaba

Not from Alibaba but I think it's a mistake, a rush to be politically correct in a city where because of the fault lines and earthquake risk insurance rates are based on how much water they can pump per minute.
This truck will end up costing them way more than the extra $300,000 they paid.
