The quiz is Countdown. This version is "8 out of 10 cats does Countdown, a somewhat more irreverent late night version with comedians as contestants. There's a word game too. monster heaven

Solution it came up with:
75 - 8 = 67
50 / 5 = 10
67 * 10 = 670
100 / 25 = 4
670 - 4 = 666

OR... [(75 - 8) * (50 / 5)] - (100 / 25)

Do you think these are figured out by running through many permutations very quickly, or through intuition // "seeing" the pattern?

a bit of both. It's hard to tell because by the time she's writing it down, the 30 seconds are up, she's already done it and is just reporting, so you don't "see" her working it out. But I spot patterns in the the different approaches she uses and I've been able to apply that to improve my own skills. This is very close to my PhD thesis topic -can you tell?
