Burnout - Such crispy, so critter

I just figured out that I have burnout. Not just a "I need a break" burnout but according to wellnessguided.org I have all of the above, in spades.Established Burnout

  • Chronic fatigue that does not improve with rest or weekends off
  • Emotional numbness or detachment from colleagues, clients, or the work itself
  • Serious doubts about your competence despite external evidence of normal performance
  • Frequent physical symptoms: recurring headaches, digestive problems, susceptibility to illness
  • Significant sleep disruption (difficulty falling asleep due to work-related rumination)
  • Dreading work consistently, rather than occasionally

Severe Burnout

  • Inability to concentrate on work tasks for meaningful periods
  • Withdrawal from colleagues, friends, and family
  • Loss of interest in activities outside of work that previously provided pleasure
  • Symptoms of depression or anxiety that extend beyond work
  • Thoughts of escape through illness, job loss, or other exits from the situation

For the past several months I've been getting my house ready to sell, in other words finishing all the projects over the last 26 years that I brought to 90% completion. Only now I'm 66, have no rotator cuffs, serious tendonitis in my knees, back, hands, and, as I just discovered, have 0 fucks left to give. About anything.

The house is mostly empty except for all my stuff that is in boxes in one room waiting to be moved to my new place (with GF in VT) Since about February I've been working pretty much 7 days a week on the house, and before that I was working pretty much 7 days a week for 3 years on rebuilding to kitchen in GF's house.

It's kind of my own fault for not being more protective of working at my pace, but also, I really haven't come to grips with the reality that I am not 25, or even 40, and that what was once possible - easy even - is now painful and in many cases completely off the table.

Reading up on how burnout happens and how to treat it shows that I have a long recovery based on the severity of my symptoms. At first I thought it was just depression creeping up, but no.

Anyway, I'm off to do some repair work on my GF's kitchen floor.

Instead, do GF on GF’s kitchen floor.

Adapt and survive.

Every job I ever had landed on burnout. Nothing worth doing ever lead me to moderation. That’s both on us and on the economy we live in. My neighbor seems to have it figured out.

I think Donald trump and his MAGA movement have done more than we realize to drive the entire nation (except for billionaires) to burnout.
With good results on Tuesday, we have the chance to reset.
At 85, I accept that a bright future is for my kids and grandkids, but I can still contribute.

Only now I'm 66,  ...

What is it like to still be a kid?

For 10 godforsaken years we've all been driven to the brink of insanity. No punishment is equal to the pain they've inflicted, and in all likelihood there will be zero personal consequences for the administrators of this madness.

I’m pretty fried from the MAGA bullshit.  I’m going to be a “poll inspector “ tomorrow which is what NY calls poll workers. It’ll keep me busy for 16 hours and maybe keep me out of the looney bin. It’ll be a long day in a red district keeping it free and fair no matter who folks vote for.
