so... back to camping.
We went camping this weekend, it was lovely. This weekend was our 11th anniversary and Twil organized the whole thing. Stop, just stop, she likes the planning and I like going. She likes riding in the fully packed car and I like hauling all the freight. We both like eating and I like cooking and watching Twil wash the dishes. Just kidding... we work really well together. Here are some pictures from the trip.
As I said, Twil, the thoughtful, considerate, attractive planner of the couple, made note of how enthralled I was of this picnic site at Rockport State Park. She took this picture (of course), way back when we started this odyssey in 2017.
Here's the same shot, from memory, four years later. Seems like some rascals rotated the picnic table!
Twil remembered how much I loved this spot and planned the whole trip so our anniversary lunch, mmmm, tasty comestibles!, would be enjoyed on this very (rotated) bench. I love this woman! And what a lunch we had. Whole grain flatcrackerbreadwholegrain things, but IDEAL for carrying a pillow of whipped cream cheese to cushion the ineffable but absolutely edible treat of smoked salmon... This was lunch. Not Insta-ready, but oh-so-delicious. Smoked salmon, kalamata olives, herbed mozzarella, I had coffee and whiskey. And salmon. Goddamn it was good.
Well. I'm gonna do this one in pieces. 'night all!

I've said it before and it's still true, we eat well at camp.
Toasted ciabatta anyone?
and coffee, of course.
Just one cup, thanks.

Yeah, there was a bike ride. We rode another section of the Cascades Trail. Twil took this one of me taking a panorama, which I can't preview but I will create a link to see it.
Here's a link to the picture *I* was taking:
right click and open in a new tab. full screen recommended.

I've seen and used most of those, but only when camping with the scouts, never really when we were just out on our own. Privately, all our camping, specifically the campfire part, will take place in a designated campsite, and almost certainly inside a big iron fire ring. Those layouts can all be adapted but basically dry little stuff under less little stuff topped with a couple of chunks of forearm sized pieces. Once it's going, you can put any other piece on top that will fit into the fire ring.
