Rivers meander, constantly taking soil from the outside of the turns and dumping soil on the inside.
Eventually they often cut through leaving that lobe unused and dry or swampy.
I wonder how hard these pristine farms are fighting against the river to maintain their land?

I imagine that soil must be incredibly mineral rich. Oxbow rivers are a pretty common phenomenon worldwide. I wonder if anyone has ever thought to excavate in order to straighten an oxbow river and what the effect would be. Probably a faster moving river.

And totally destroy their farms so they'd have to figure out how to fill in the loops and allocated the land in proportion to what each had and in relation to where their house and outbuildings are located.
