Pancho and Lefty - Townes VanZandt

Living on the road my friend,
Is gonna keep you free and clean
Now you wear your skin like iron,
Your breath as hard as kerosene.
You weren't your mama's only boy,
But her favorite one it seems
She began to cry when you said goodbye,
And sank into your dreams.

Pancho was a bandit boy,
His horse was fast as polished steel
He wore his gun outside his pants
For all the honest world to feel.
Pancho met his match you know
On the deserts down in Mexico
Nobody heard his dying words,
Ah but that's the way it goes.

All the Federales say
They could have had him any day
They only let him slip away
Out of kindness, I suppose.

Lefty, he can't sing the blues
All night long like he used to.
The dust that Pancho bit down south
Ended up in Lefty's mouth
The day they laid poor Pancho low,
Lefty split for Ohio
Where he got the bread to go,
There ain't nobody knows

The poets tell how Pancho fell,
And Lefty's living in cheap hotels
The desert's quiet, Cleveland's cold,
And so the story ends we're told
Pancho needs your prayers it's true,
But save a few for Lefty too
He only did what he had to do,
And now he's growing old

Re: Lyrics with Meaning

Little Dolls by Ozzy Osbourne

Writhing and screaming
The pain just won't go
He'll show you no mercy
Your image in his hands
It's useless to try
Escaping his curses

The pins and needles
Prick the skin of little dolls.

Tortured and flaming
You give birth to hell
Living a nightmare
It's a pity
You'll pray for your death
But he's in no hurry

The pins and needles
Prick the skin of little dolls.

No where to run
Your fate is in his hands
Your time has come
You'll live to his command
I'm warning you
The worst is yet to come
The killer who
Remains a mystery

I that believe in the stories of old
Would never fight it
Demons and curses that play on our soul
Like something ignited

You never imagined such a fate could follow you
You never thought it was true
And when it's your time
I wonder how you'll do
Your kind of trouble's
Running deeper than the sea
But whatcha gonna do about it?
You broke the rule
You've been a fool

The little doll is you yeah!
No where to run
Your fate is in his hands
Your time has come
You'll live to his command
I'm warning you
The worst is yet to come
The killer who

Remains a mystery
Wrything and screaming
The pain just won't go
He'll show you no mercy
Your image in his hands
It's useless to try

Escaping his curses
No where to run
Your fate is in his hands
Your time has come
You'll live to his command
I'm warning you
The worst is yet to come
The killer who
Remains a mystery

Re: Lyrics with Meaning

"Pancho needs your prayers it's true,
But save a few for Lefty too
He only did what he had to do,
And now he's growing old"
Damn Griff, that got heavy at the end.

On a lighter note I didn't know where to put this and no I'm not sticking it there.
Back when I was a wee lad, maybe 5, before I went to school, I memorized a song in a book my sister had.
Of course I had no clue what the tune was since I didn't read music but most songs can be faked with a sing-song voice.
I come from Montana
I wear a bandanna,
My spurs are of silver
My pony is gray
When riding the ranges
My luck never changes
With foot in the stirrup I gallop away

73 years later I discover it's a real song that's been recorded...

My Home's in Montana

My home's in Montana
I wear a bandana
My spurs are of silver
My pony is gray
While riding the ranges
My luck never changes
With foot in the stirrup I'll gallop away

When valleys are dusty
My pony is trusty
He lopes through the blizzards
The snow in his ears.
The cattle may scatter
But what does it matter
My rope is a halter for pig-headed steers

When far from the ranches
I chop the pine branches
To heap on the campfire
As daylight grows pale
When I have partaken
Of beans and of bacon
I'll whistle a merry old song of the trail

My home's in Montana
I wear a bandana
My spurs are of silver
My pony is gray
While riding the ranges
My luck never changes
With foot in the stirrup I'll gallop away
The first line is slightly different so I think they changed that. I'm dead sure I remember it exactly the way it was in the book. Times I can't remember my name I can still remember those lyrics.

Re: Lyrics with Meaning

I hope you googled "montana bandana song" videos.  There is a wonderful variety.

I never heard that song, but Pancho and Lefty is one of my all time faves.  Google does a good job there, too.

Re: Lyrics with Meaning

Found this by accident, it's country/westernish and I don't see it ever getting much airplay in this area.
Junior Brown      Highway Patrol

I got a star on my car and one on my chest,
A gun on my hip and the right to arrest
I'm the guy who's the boss on this highway
So watch out what you're doin' when you're drivin' my way
If you break the law, you'll hear from me, I know
I'm a-workin' for the state I'm The Highway Patrol.

Well, you'll know me when you see me,
'cause my door's painted white
My siren a-screamin' and my flashing' red lights
I work all day and I work all night
Yes a-keepin' law and order, tryin' to do what's right
If I write you out a ticket, then you'd better drive slow
I'm just a-doin' my job, I'm The Highway Patrol.

I'm the Highway Patrol, the Highway Patrol,
my hours are long, and my pay is low.
But I'll do my best to keep you driving slow,
I'm just a-doin' my job, I'm The Highway Patrol.

If your driving to fast, like you shouldn't do,
you can bet your boots, I'm coming after you.
If you wanna race, then get on a race track,
cause if you try and run away, I'm gonna bring ya back,
I'm here to keep all the speeders driving slow,
I'm just a-doin' my job, I'm The Highway Patrol

I'm the Highway Patrol, the Highway Patrol,
my hours are long, and my pay is low.
But I'll do my best to keep you driving slow,
I'm just a-doin' my job, I'm The Highway Patrol.

I'm just a-doin' my job, I'm The Highway Patrol
edit:
The reason I found it is I was told Junior Brown was a hell of a guitar player.

Re: Lyrics with Meaning

I got boulders on my shoulders
collarbones begin to crack
There is very little left of me and it is nver coming back
There are cerain things you ask of me
And there are cetain things I loack
In the beginning we are winning
But now I'm just making up facts

What it matter any more ?
if you believe the lies I tell
(What is the matter anymore)
there's no meaning to the words
But we still sing these songs well
(What it matter anymore)
If we all left it alone
(What's it matter, what's matter, what's it matter anymore?)
We keep playing with the number
We are running out of time
We are running, we are running

But you're a killer
And I'm your bets freind
Think it's unfair, your situsation
You say I'm changing
Sorry, I didn't know I had to say the same
Coudl we talk about this later?
your voice is driving me insane

Well, I try to write you poems, but the words , they don't make sense
My hand tries to grip the pencil, but the finger are too tense
An I try to show emtion, but my eyes won't seem to wet
And I'd love to ell you stories, but I can't rember how they went
You're a flashligh tin adark room for the lonelist blackout
You were all we had left after it was filter out
Turn you on in a dark room right before we both pass out
Turn you on when I need you but the gateries ran out
They ran out
And you're a werewolf and I'm a full moon
And all your verworst enemies will be gone soon
I think you're changing
Don't worry , you don't gotta stay the same
Could we talk about this later?
Your voice is driving me insaine
driving me insae x 8

I didn't realize there's a newer version, I guess it should be an updated version or part 2....

Re: Lyrics with Meaning

With meaning? Yes, almost a rallying for truth, justice and the American way.

Nothing more American that violent armed revolution... and chickens in choppers.
