I wonder why some places do that?
The water has to be clean, no wind rippling it, and no snow falling on it.
Oh, and no methane or fish farts bubbling up though it.
It's so pretty people couldn't wait to cut it up.

The explanation is in the article it's a combination of w weather and geography/geology. The lake is up in the mountains and the base is just rock no soil or plant matter

Yes, but this was apparently an unusual condition for this lake, some lakes do it fairly often, I know of two in New England but not near as big as this lake.
