Climate Change Isn't Just Here

The US and it's neighbors are seeing the effects but not suffering too much yet.
The fires and water shortages and scattered crop failures, are just the beginning.
But that's just weather, ain't got nothing to do with climate. Please lord...strength.

Central America is suffering a shortage of rain which means a shortage of fresh water.
One of the biggest users is suffering, the Panama Canal.
It takes about 200 million gallons of fresh water to pass a ship through the canal.
The water comes from the lake in the middle and ends up in the ocean.
Some newer locks recycle part of the water, but the Canal has reduced the acceptable draft.
With the draft reduced by 6 ft to 44 ft, ships have to reduce cargo 1800 to 2400 TEU.
1 TEU is an 8’x 8½’ x 20’ container and the number reduced depends on cargo weight.
It's also caused a backlog with a queue at each end, but no guaranty how long you'll wait..
However if you really truly desperately have to get there overnight, you can jump the line for $4.5 million.
I haven't found out if the $4.5 million is in addition to the normal passage fee
Things traveling to the east coast will be more expensive, Europe also.

Re: Climate Change Isn't Just Here

Been watching congestion about the Panama canal.  About 100 ships await access on each side.  Due to water shortages, only 22 ships daily transverse the canal.  Panama announced that number will be reduced, in a few months, to 18 ships.

Some companies now use the Suez Canal.  Since that longer route can be less expensive.

Already container ships unload some cargo in Panama so that rail cars will cross the Ismuth.  Then those ships reload their containers at the other end.  To reduce the amount of used water.

But Trump supporters still say global warming does not exist.  Are any still saying that global cooling is occuring?

Throw shit on the wall.  See what sticks.  To discover which crap extremists will believe.

Re: Climate Change Isn't Just Here

[true story] While in the Canal Zone I watched a yacht pass by that had two small helicopters resting on two separate helipads abaft. One helicopter and pad were pink and the other helicopter and pad were blue. The pink helipad had a sign on it that said "Hers" and the blue one had a sign that said "His." [/true story]

Probably for an elaborate gender reveal party. A cruise missile is launched at the corresponding helicopter.

Flint, you're a sick puppy... but you're probably right.
Water is stressing a lot of places, too much or too little.
