Looks like the lid is suspended from a plane, helicopter, balloon or maybe a parachute.
On the opposite side from the man/woman there appears to be at least one strap from the lid to the box.
I wonder if the diver was there to steady the box? Release the lid? Snacking on seeds?
That last one may sound crazy but we’re talking about someone who willingly jumped out a perfectly good plane.
