I always admired glatt's thread from the Before Times.
Here is the new thread, in his honor, in the After Times.
My backyard last Sunday. Not cold, still, the foghorn from the ferries blared all day.

You are both precisely correct.

So, it's not particularly neat, but this hossshoe hoss is permanently installed on my town square.
I'm trying to find an image-editing program and am not finding anything I like, or can get to download, or even use.
Tried Picasa, they want to scan my entire computer for images, couldn't find a way to open a single specific image.
Tried some other thing that would not download.
Tried PhotoShop Express, it wanted me to sign up and sign in. Yeah, no.
So now I'm using the GIMP.
My. God.
It's like they held a contest to find the hardest, clunkiest way to do EVERYTHING.
Example: The help dialog for how to sharpen an image, an entire image mind you, not the use-brush-to-sharpen-a-portion-of-the-image, contains in the title How To Sharpen An Image (part 10 of 14).
On the 15 yr old program I was using on the now dead computer (PhotoStudio 5.5), sharpening an image was, literally a 5 second process. Click the button, slide the slider, done.
And I can't find the actual program (PhotoStudio 5.5) to download it. Oh, I can find places that say they have it...None of them have it. Or it's $79.95. Uh, yeah, no. Or it's another version. Ya don't want the other versions, either. Ya just don't.
I've been left shaking my head for a solid week now. I'm at a loss.
I know it's not the proper thread, but, what do you guys use to edit photos?

Hey, look! I posted an image!!!!!!!!!!
Somebody ought to just kill me now, while I'm happy.
Online!
I use GIMP and watch YouTube videos that explain how to do the thing I want to do. It usually takes less than 3 minutes to learn a particular tool, and then hopefully I'll remember.
I just went into GIMP to tell you how to sharpen, and it's not clear at all. Under Filters-> Enhance> Sharpen, there are options, but it looks like you have to create a mask or something first. I never sharpen stuff because I don't like the way it looks, but you should just watch a youtube video on it.
I've got the sharpening, and saturation thing a third figured out, I think.
The pic I posted (yay?) is sharpened (too much), and I worked on the saturation, not quite successfully.
That program is just ridiculous. There is no logic about it that I can find.

Max congratulations on persisting! And like your picture too.
I use Irfanview and GIMP for editing, and REGULAR DAMN PAINT when I can't get the edits I want done directly in the phone. Super basic editing, cropping, etc. I don't resize anymore (used to be paint), my new method of posting (it's a process, and requires/has only been tested with) Google Photos, which is my life now. I'm even pushing pictures taken with other cameras, saved to my computer, through my Pixel phone to my Google Photos account. That's where they're gonna live, forever.
For the record, there are some basic editing tools in Picasa, and I used to use them *a lot*, but the migration to 'teh cloud' left Picasa on the land as I sailed away. It's really a much much better librarian of your photos than it is an editor, but it's a fair simple editor. Letting it scan your computer is really what it wants to do and it does a good job of if as long as your storage system is not complicated. Like... external drives are complicated. There is a way to do it, and I know how and I can show you, but, yeah this isn't the time or thread.
Still working on editing...
Miniature roses from the patio:
The top ones were funky-looking in the original image, anything I did just made it worse.
And, yes, BigV, it's that same miniature rose I've posted a dozen or more times. I think it's immortal.
I can cover all those roses with my somewhat smallish hand.

So, I right click on the pic addy, go to properties, cut and paste addy that shows, open and get "can't be opened, right click addy and copy and paste in Google Chrome and the pretty roses open right up.
Piece of cake.
So you do not see roses in post #11? You are seeing a link?
I get nothing like that w/a right-click.
Also, the pic in post #11 is not a link. It's not clickable.
Not in Firefox 88, anyway.
I would never even want to look a pic if I had to go through the shit you just described. Not even for porn.

All you're doing is opening a link. Why not just click the link?
WTF is all that other extraneous crap?

I wonder if the above quote will change when I correct post #15?
Let's find out.[/MrOwl]
ETA: Nope.

Ok then, back to pics.
We ride our bikes frequently and we like to visit different trails in the area. I've been taking pics for our own pleasure, but I think about posting some of them here from time to time. Bikes thread? I guess. But they're not really about bikes so... Ok, ok then, back to the pics. Harumph.
It's cherry season in this area. In fact, the recent heat wave has prompted an acceleration of the cherry harvest, now starting at 430 am and wrapping up at 930 am. This picture was taken at 1052 am. The cherries themselves were taken at 1053 and they were DELICIOUS. MMMMmmmm, Wild Cherry.
More cherries.
Here are some thimbleberries, too dusty and past ripe even for me--ugh. And the huckleberry in the foreground wasn't producing yet, but I'll stop for a huckleberry for sure.
Having a trailside treat is part of the joy of being outside for me.

Here's a pretty little sweet pea from the same trip near the northeastern end of the Coal Mine Trail from Cle Elum to Roslyn.

We have one gorgeous clematis blossom in the back yard. It's growing on a perfectly symmetrical pair of branches, petals upward like a beautiful cup.
Very pretty
At least last week it was. This is the same poor flower on Monday, 110 degrees.

I ask again, to my peril, those of you having trouble seeing images, can you see the image at the link, or do you have to jump through 319 hoops to see it?
If ya can't see my images at all, I'll stop posting them. After all I don't expect you enjoy beating your head(s) against the wall any more than I do.

The answer is that I had to switch to Chrome to see the pic or the link,
Chrome still won't let me log in so this comment is on IE.
Scary pic. The super heat and drought we are having in is creeping up on tornadoes as least favorite weather.
Keep posting.
