Immigrants

Seems this years election has a couple of major arguments, one being the Mexican border & immigration.
You keep hearing you're going to lose you job to AI or an immigrant.
I'm not too worried because I don't have a job other than bring you stuff.
WaPo says there's a shortage of workers in every state although varied in severity.
But you could still lose your job to someone willing to work cheaper... or AI.
Just comparing the number of unemployed people to the open jobs available is not much help

Re: Immigrants

The fear-mongering about Mexican immigrants isn't about "taking your job" anymore, it's about them supposedly all going on welfare and committing crime. People are definitely scared about losing their jobs to AI, though.

Keep throwing shit against the wall to see what sticks.  Obama was not born an American.  Saddam had WMDs.  Parents of kids killed in Sandy Hook faked their kids death.  Alex Jones said so.   So an FBI agent and relatives of eight victims describe threats and hate mail from conspiracy pundits.

One had to move from Connecticut to Washington state to get away from harassment.  And was still confronted years later on the street in Seattle for faking is daughter's death.  So many adults are still children,.  So shit does stick to the wall.

If one is dealing with reality, proven by both history and economics, then one knows AI means more jobs. By learning from facts. Not from emotions invented by the least educated 'experts' or conspiracy theorists.  Who get rich (Alex Jones) or elected (Trump) by intentionally promoting lies.  Obvious purveyors of shit.

Put the immigrants in all those jobs created by AI.

Problem solved. Have a great day!

Re: Immigrants

In a nation that already has more jobs than people, one would think immigrants are needed.  But we also put forth laws that demand immigrants cannot work for something (if I remember) for 18 months.  Immigration is absolutely necessary if a nation is to be productive and innovative.  Then we screw it up with laws justified by emotion.  And sometimes hate.

Re: Immigrants

The work permit process takes about 6 months, if it's running smoothly. The problem is that every aspect of the process is suffering from a major backlog of applications. It was bad before COVID, and worse now.

Actually, i's both. Sanctuary cities and states are crying out for financial aid to support their immigrant populations. It comes at their taxpayer's expense since processing immigrant work permits (EAD) takes about 6 months; however, the work permits don't necessarily mean they'll find jobs; so, the support requirements can extend beyond that.

The sanctuary cities and states are also displacing workers who have jobs to make those jobs available to immigrants. It makes the politicians look less inept if they can report that their immigrants are getting jobs. For example, Illinois recently passed a law stipulating that workers from temporary agencies, across a broad spectrum of industries, can't work for client corporations for more than 90 calendar days without the client either hiring, or, compensating them the same as their employees including wages and the dollar value of their employee benefit package.

Many corporations use long-term temps because they want continuity in performance; but, can't afford to hire more employees either directly due to the expense involved or indirectly if increasing employee numbers means loss of small business status and related savings. So, now those clients have to get new temps in every 90 calendar days which is ridiculous when you consider that now a client has to train temps twice just to replace an employee who's taking 6 months off under FMLA.

This year, long-term temps who have been working with the same client for even 10 years or more are getting booted to provide job openings for the overload of immigrants. There's no grandfather clause. Those long-term temps are barred by law from returning to their current client for 1 year (unless the client meets the aforementioned requirements). If the temporary service agency and their client don't comply, they can each be fined $100 per head, per day and the agency can lose its business license.

The cutthroat politicians can now claim to have employed 4 immigrants, each for 90 days. for every long-term temp they forced out of a job position. Those long-term temps will lose the pay raises their client authorized for longevity. Politicians in their final term of office couldn't care less. People wonder why there's a backlash: they don't know, don't want to know, don't care unless a political maneuver affects them or their business directly. The students, single parents, and working elderly who need the flexible hours temporary agencies provide will end up voting for the other team.

Just sayin'

Re: Immigrants

So much could be easily solved by first creating a reasonable number of visas.  (ie 2 million instead of 50,000 for immigrant farm workers,)  And two, vetting those requests at embassies or extensions in those countries.  A person would know if his political asylum request will be honored before paying coyotes.  Once he pays, then he has no choice but to stay or come back even if deported back to Mexico.

But that means moderates - not extremist - are making decisions and laws.  Currently that will never happen once so many Americans are fascinated by extremists.  Just like 1930 Germans were so fascinated by Hitler.  Both using similar reasoning and speeches.  Based in lies, hate, and justified only by emotions.  Inferior non-Aryans or inferior immigrants.  Same logic.

Solutions are so simple if one thinks like a patriot - a moderate.  Not like an anti-American - an extremist.

Some even want to blame victims (ie sancturary cities) who are actually trying to do what patroitic Americans are force to do.  When government is subverted by the above cited anti-Americans.

Only extremists also blame job loss on extremists.  Job losses are always and directly traceable to top management that routine subverts innovation to enrich the Central Committee of the Communist Party.  Top management.  But then that means again citing the evil people in America.  Such as top management in Boeing, GE, Meta, US Steel and the other anti-American steel companies, First Energy corporation, American ship building industry, General Motors, and the politicians so corrupt as to protect these enemies of innovation.

Why are ignorant Americans obstucting the sale of US Steel to the partiotic American Nippon Steel?  The love it when US Steel keeps destroying more American jobs.  Not that they want to.  People are judged by what they do.  Not by what their emotions say.

If solutions are so simple; yet, top management (Biden et. al) isn't patriotic enough to implement them, then top management has to go. I agree, Biden has to go.
