I've been an AAA member since 2011 when I was running back and forth to Cape Cod, 500 miles each way, a dozen times a year. At that time I could get a 300 mile free tow which would take me to one end or the other of the trip. They're a pain in the ass, you have to wait hours, and that appears to be intentional according to the drivers. But every driver I've dealt with knew their shit and did no damage. I tip them well but they don't know that up front.
Anyway I recently got a notice an automatic re-up was coming, and looking at the brochure I noticed a discounted price the first year, then a higher price after that.
But by the way there's a sign up fee when added to the discounted price comes to exactly the ongoing price.
Down the rabbit hole I go. In order to ask a question you have to fill out a form online.
They reply fairly quickly in an email but you can't reply and must fill out another form to ask another.
I got some frivolous brush off replies but was tenacious until they gave me a link to download the complete members manual.
In that I discovered I had benefits I wasn't aware of. Since these days they are primarily an insurance company I feel some are to know what you're up to.
For instance; Reimbursed for attorney's fees paid to defend you against a covered traffic charge or violations. I never did find what's "covered" but it was max of $50 or $75 depending on the level of court.
Now wouldn't you car insurance company pay $50 to find out what you've been charged with so they can jack your rate a couple hundred?
But my bicycle is covered!

I always felt the benefit to AAA was a way to have 1.5 volts but in a smaller form factor.

I think it's time you reported to AA.
