Baltimore Bridge

Carmen, a vehicle carrier, has just passed through the Francis Scott Key Bridge security zone on its way to the Panama Canal. Escorted by may tugs and at least one Coast Guard boat.

A last major section of that bridge was removed (surprisingly at night) just a few days ago by the Chesapeake 1000 crane.  Opening the north side of a Federal Channel.

At least three bulk carriers and three Navy supply ships might be shallow enough to follow.

I suspect this has happened ahead of schedule.

Re: Baltimore Bridge

Oil chemical tanker used the temporary channel.  Rated at 9.7 meters.  That should be sufficient for many ships.  But not massive container ships.

Re: Baltimore Bridge

It would appear they are finally starting to remove bridge parts off the Dali.  Front is where all toxic containers are located. Unknown how that complicates things.

First piece to come off appears to be bridge structure on the starboard side.

Re: Baltimore Bridge

Move began after 7 AM today.  Two hours to back the Dali up and spin it around. By 10:30 AM, the Dali was berthed in the Seagirt Marine Terminal by McAllistor tugs.

Re: Baltimore Bridge

Dali has been moved to the end of the Marine Terminal pier.  With only one crane to unload it.  Curiously, at least two tug boats constantly sit near it.  And sometimes a barge.  Even though it is tied firmly to the pier awaiting all containers to be removed.

Apparently it cannot be unloaded like other container ships are.

Re: Baltimore Bridge

One crane, 4700 containers!

Re: Baltimore Bridge

And I don't see anything moving.  Just tug boats standing off and monitoring.  And maybe a barge crane.

OK.  It is a holiday weekend.  Still, always at least two tugboats standing by?  Curious.

Maybe Sri Lanka does not want them any more.
