Re: Dishy

Speeds are really good. We get the occasional drop but it's usually momentary. Pete moves big files for work and they're going well. Typical 20 minute download just happened in under a minute and a half. Streaming has improved markedly.

Re: Dishy

Nice.

With each bump in speed that I have experienced, I usually get used to it pretty quickly and expect it.  Although we are reaching speeds that are really more than we need.  I suppose streaming video on 6 devices simultaneously, isn't so necessary with the kids out of the house.

Re: Dishy

Any delays on video conferencing?  That was always a problem with satellite communication.  That LEO satellites are suppose to solve.

Also curious if 20 minute radio blackouts, created by sunspot activity, cause problems.  We just had one yesterday that took out east Asia and the western Pacific.  Will be curious to discover what happens when one occurs in your part of the planet.  Since we are approaching maximum solar activity.

Last time I looked, only about half of the constellation has been launched.  Due to one solar flare, almost all of maybe 40 satellites never achieved orbit.

Re: Dishy

We had a network issue for 7 minutes last night but it came back up fine.Video conferencing is working well. We'll see how the network handles all this solar activity.

The mounting hardware which came with dishy was a garbage design. We bought some stuff online which naturally had one measurement OD and the other ID. I finally sorted it out.

Re: Dishy

And so the critical question - why.  Especially since Starlink is an essential tool for the Ukraine military.  Russia can do almost anything without consequences.  We will not even give Ukraine missile to strike all Russian military on the Russian side of the border.  And should to avert WW IIII.

Putin should suffer consequences for everything he does.  Or he will become the next Hitler.  One is expected to learn from history.  Or is doomed to repeat it.  Did Putin do it?  World wide outage cannot be explained by sun spot activity.   And should not be explained by a failure in Starlink control.  Since the Starlink network is suppose to be automomous - just like the internet.

"Russia can do almost anything without consequences."

There were tight U.S. sanctions issued against Russia a couple years ago after they invaded Ukraine.  Other countries may still trade with them, but the U.S. sanctions have cause a massive decline in business there.  I used to personally correspond with Russian lawyers on a weekly basis before the war and now it's maybe twice a year.  And there are strict rules about the flow of payments for legal services there.  We simply can't pay them.

I'm more than a little surprised we still cooperate on the ISS.
