Gut Reaction

Apple Intelligence: Pretty sure Elmo came out against it so everyone will adopt it. Skynet is on it's way.

Re: Gut Reaction

I like AI so far.

I sometimes am at a loss of what to write in cards for special events.  I mean, I know what I generally want to write, but the words sound flat and when there is such a small amount of space in a card, you want the words to really be perfect.  So I try a few various prompts for (Gemini is my current go to) and keep asking for more examples of notes until I have a few sentences that are exactly what I need.

The most recent one was for my wife's bosses son, who graduated from high school, and we were going to the graduation party. She works with the boy and they are friendly.  And high school for this lad is just a small step, and there is way more to come in his life.  So we wanted to congratulate him, but not make a big deal about it, and offer encouragement for the future, but do all of this in a friendly and familiar way.  Not formal or pompous at all.  And after a few go rounds with the AI, we got the perfect 2-3 sentence note drafted.  The AI finally gave us a line about "staying curious in the future" and that was the perfect tone we were going for.  It seems obvious in hindsight, but that's the kind of phrase I have trouble getting to on my own.

So AI is definately good for some things. I think knowing how to use it is the important skill.

Re: Gut Reaction

I'm worried about this scenario when it's not just glatt writing a hallmark card, it's a movie executive writing a screenplay. Every time this happens, it's a human writer not getting the job.  It seems as though having "artist" and "writer" as jobs people can do is very important to the health of society --would Michelangelo have painted the Sistine Chapel if he had to work a double shift at Burger King? Meanwhile, as the last generation of creative thinkers who can afford to eat food dies off, AI will be feasting on a recursive circle jerk of referenced references that eventually can only produce conceptual gray goo. It's a recipe for the death of human culture.

Re: Gut Reaction

Miichelangelo did things to make it hard for the Pope to inspect his progress.  In productive / profitable operations, the boss must only provide attitude and knowledge.  Provide a strategic objective.  Then let employees do the work.  Since they were hired because they know how to do it best.

However, exceptions do occur.  End of the movie Casablanca had a poor ending.  So an executive rewrote and had reshot the last seen.  That became legendary in a world's best movie.

Louie.  I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

It was to define what we later would call WWII.  Sometimes a boss can do good.

Re: Gut Reaction

I think it will make productive people, people who will actually read the output, more productive. I assume it will generate a lot of nonsense when used by slackers. I know from living in this trickle down economy that it should increase productivity but will not result in increased compensation. Creatives are now on the chopping block so the push back will be interesting. Mass market media is going one way and small local hands on media is likely to go the other.

Re: Gut Reaction

I should mention that wage growth is currently outpacing inflation, but I'm pretty sure we're going to elect the maniacs next cycle so we'll be leaning into crony capitalism rather than the mild liberalism of Biden.

Re: Gut Reaction

Glatt: I am left wondering if you used "Gemini" to compose your post.
And, of course, what the note the three of you came up said.
