I was told rich people are smarter and better with money than us regulars.

*shrug* if they want to spend that kind of money to be able to have waterfront homes, have at it. Just don't ask the taxpayers to support it.

We will support it, though. Not the protection of those properties, but the bailouts once they're destroyed for good. That's what the government did after Katrina--they bought the flattened lots from landlords en masse, and then held them ever since so no idiots could try to build on them again.
The question is, how many major coastline bailouts will happen in quick succession before the fed says "no more," or at least lowers the compensation rate to the point that it might as well be nothing?

You have assumed government still has many moderates. With extremism (ie Alex Jones, Trump, etc), intelligent thought is replaced by soundbites and extremist rhetoric - ie hate of government. Trump demonstrates this by even claiming (every so often) that he would eliminate democracy. (Then he backtracks.)
Contempt of intelligent thought even demonstrated during Katrina. When refugees in the Convention Center and Superdome has no food or water for three days. And Brownie even denied it on ABC News Nightline. So many believed him rather then Rivera (and the other Fox News reporter) who said it was happening. Even the Fox News anchorman denied it.
The USS Bataan sat 50 miles offshore unable to provide assistance. Because George Jr refused to authorize it. But again, facts that did not happen because extremism makes problem solving, or even defining a problem, impossible. By simply denying it with a soundbite.
We have a severe shortage of moderates. Coastline wipeouts, protected by government insurance and bailouts, is only a symptom. Flood insurance so that people can build where nothing should be built.

Meanwhile in Belgium, there's some good shit going on...
Belgian breakthrough: Stool transplant shows promise for improving symptoms of Parkinson's disease.

Major strides have recently been made in understanding Parkinson's. It is caused by common viruses such as herpes, influenza, hepatitis, etc. The immune system learns to attack those. But that response then sees nerve sheaths as similar. Attacks them.
Genetic research is now ongoing to teach the immune system to not attack that protein structure.

You can see in the first picture that the guy in the foreground has the tip of his fishing rod over to his left. He has hooked the whale; but, instead of playing the whale to the right, away from the port side, he played the whale to his left and right into that other boat. They should revoke his fishing license.

How should we know he hooked the whale?

When the whale makes a run, the fishing line will be pulled out so fast the reel will start smoking.

In my day, rod and gun competencies would be proven well before stepping on a deck or climbing onto a roof. Kids today.

In my day the ocean was uphill both ways. And we had to clean it with our tongues after we'd been in it.

A military transport aircraft with a proper bathroom! I didn't think I'd live long enough to see the day. This could take the market for mid-size military transport aircraft away from Lockheed Martin for a number of reasons. Boeing would rather have done it; but, blew the opportunity. Worth a read, lots of pictures.
See inside the Brazilian C-390 Millennium that Boeing once wanted to buy but now doesn't have an answer to
C-1̶3̶0̶ 390 rolling down the strip
Airborne daddy gonna take a little trip
Jump-up, hook-up, shuffle to the door
Jump right out and count to four
If my chute don't open wide
I've got another one by my side
If that one don't open round
I'll be the first one to the ground...

Nonsense, toilets on the plane, heresy, against strategic principles .
Don't lighten the paratroopers, heavy men get to the ground faster than lighter ones.
Less chance of being picked off in the air.
Then lighten the load on landing by not tucking in the pant cuffs. ;o)

...Fort Worth, Texas -
An interesting situation there. At least IIRC it was interesting. I think it was in Ft. Worth. Ft. Worth is in Texas, isn't it? Am I posting this in the right thread? I'll still get credit for the post in my post count, right? Let's see now, where was I... oh yeah...
"'Missing' GOP Congresswoman Not Seen For Six Months Finally Found Living at Dementia Care Home"
NPR journalist Brian Mann added: "The story of 81-yr-old US Rep. Kay Granger reportedly living in a dementia facility while missing votes highlights need for better reporting on the aging of America's leaders. US lawmakers older than 70 now outnumber those under age 40 by more than 3-to-1."
It's good to be a US Representative for Fort Worth.

They talked about that on the Sunday morning shows today Lady Keryx was beside herself with disbelief.
All I can say is at least she couldn't get into trouble.

I read an article referring to all these folks from Pelosi to Granger as the Mothball Mafia. They need to go.
