Re: Names. (My obsession) ((Well one of them))

Long ago in a land far away I failed to persuade someone who had won the green card lottery to change her name from Assol to something, ANYthing, else.

many don't.  But these were born here.

My fave is still Randy Dong ...who was an associate researcher or something when I was PhD student.  He chose an anglicized name, but apparently was underinformed about the differences between British and American English.  But he was very friendly and enthusiastic and when he introduced himself to the group, it was several minutes before any of us could respond

4 days of swim championships, some name observations:

Sunbear

surprise popular names:

Grayson

In one of the 4 meets (9/10 age group), there were 3 of each of these -two girls and one boy.  yes, that's right, two girls called Grayson in the same swim meet

About to add this year's offerings   but just wanted to update.... Sunbear is still swimming.  Now in the oldest group and when the ladies were waiting to be marshalled, I overheard them mention his name in a highschool girl way....

(Only one Grayson left and she's also in the top age group, The Averys have reached the spelling variant point (Averi, Aivery....))

Re: Names. (My obsession) ((Well one of them))

Based on my observations from three days of swim championships this year (one more to go)... ...in the next couple of decades, we will be attending the wedding of Ellie and Hamilton. The bridesmaids will be Vera, Esther and Gladys, with Odin as best man and any and all other groomsmen will be called Jude.

Yes, two Odins so far and still another day to go.

Our new weird frontrunner these days is Nico ("neeko")--we've have three of those this summer, all short for Nicolas, plus one Neko, short for nothing.

Re: Names. (My obsession) ((Well one of them))

And lo and behold today I found a Rodnika.  Not exactly a female Rodney, but it's coming.....

Also plenty of Millenniums, but none related to Billennium who, it turns out, was named after his father.
