Currently off the coast of Africa may be the first topical storm that will bother east coast Americans. Point of concern should be in seven days (based upon current movement) when it reaches 65 degrees West (the longitude of Bermuda). Previous (mostly weak) storms turned north at this point. Prevailing winds that do that may have slowly degraded. Making an east coast storm finally possible.
This one appears to be robust.

And so the storm broke up. It was tracking like all powerful storms to be north of Puerto Rico. But is turned south in the last two day. This year, every storm that goes into the Carribean fails. Due to (apparently) upper air currents and very dry air. Before it turned, it was 90% certain to be a powerful hurricane.
This was a very boring year for hurricane watchers.

Same for mushroom cloud watchers.

Which ones are poisonous?

About five day short of being south of Bermuda. This potential hurricane is not making the same mistake. It is staying out of the Caribbean. On track to hit the US. However it currently looks headed too far north (and well south of Bermuda). Cold water now as far south as North Carolina means it should not be serious. It will probably be called Gabrielle.
Its been a boring hurricane season.

Winds changed. Airflow that previously moved storms up the east coast are now moving hurricanes east of Bermuda. Headed for Ireland.
Gabrielle and a following tropical storm will not get anywhere near North America. No excitement.

Gabrielle is going back home to Africa
Humberto is following a same 'does not bother anyone' tracks by previous tropical storms. But this time, Imelda is in its wake. So Imelda is being pushed into SE Atlantic states. Maybe in three days. Good surfing. And totally irrelevant to the many who have learned from previous storms. Now that colder water has pushed as far south as the N / S Carolina border.

Imelda (current called number 9) will apparently stay in the Gulf stream. Where it is warm enough to become a hurricane.on Tuesday off Jacksonville. And then head out to sea. Another promising storm falls short.

Imelda was so pathetic as to pass directly over the Bahamas. Three cruise ships (from Celebrity, Disney, and MSC) remained in Nassau today. All three left as schedules to follow the tropical storm out of town.
Another storm, so boring, that it should not be even reported in network news.

Are you rooting for the hurricanes to hit populations?

It how we bnring back sanity. How many people died from Katrina. Because the threat was well documented. Nobody listened. Even George Jr refused to let nearby military unit provide assistance.
Had New Orleans suffered smaller hurricances, then sanity would have existed.
Places like Fort Myers did not suffer a lesser storm. Even a near zero hurricane called Sandy forced the entire NYC region to start implmenting protection - even to subways.
And then the point. This has been the most boring hurrican seaons in over a decade. One must go back to the sixties to see threats this minimal.
For excitement, one must watch Project 2025.
