So many forget (or never learned) from history 30 years ago.  When bin Laden was conducting major attacks and killing Americans.  Clinton was a moderate.  Recognized the threat in the 1900s.  Put the anti-terrorism office inside the White House. And still extremists (such as he American ambassador to Yemen) intentionally stifled investigations for a personal agenda.  The people who come from where the work gets done were screaming about threats.  And so on or about New Years 2000, major attacks on tourists in Egypt, on a major hotel in Jordan, Indian Airline  Flight 814, on the LA airport,  USS The Sullivans, and in Times Square during the dropping ball.   Almost everyone was averted by the 'people who knew'.  Suddenly, other parts of government realized a bin Laden threat was serious. When extremists took over, the anti-terrorism ground was move out of the White House.  Cheney still considered communism and the Cold War a greater threat.   This is why informed citizen learn from news sources such as Frontline.  Many facts that many probably forgot.  And why 911 could have been averted.  Since the people who knew this stuff also knew it was coming. 

O'Neil knew it was coming.  So he become Security Chief for the WTC only two days before the attack.  He knew it was coming.  So many who agreed were suddenly replaced.  He did not have enough time (or information) to avert it.
