Mama, just killed a man
Put a knee against his neck
Got distracted, aw, shit, heck!

I really can't stay
Baby it's cold outside
I gotta go away
Baby it's cold outside
This evening has been
Been hoping that you'd dropped in
So very nice
I'll hold your hands they're just like ice...
Nah, too easy

Sitting on a park bench
Eyeing little girls with bad intent
Snot's running down his nose
Greasy fingers smearing shabby clothes
Hey, Aqualung
Drying in the cold sun
Watching as the frilly panties run
Hey, Aqualung
Feeling like a dead duck
Spitting out pieces of his broken luck
Oh, Aqualung
Nope, still not doin it right
Caught up in a whirlwind, can't catch my breath
Knee deep in hot water, broke out in cold sweat
Can't catch a turtle, in this rat race
Feels like I'm losing time, at a breakneck pace
Afraid of my own shadow, in the face of grace
Heart full of darkness, spotlight on my face
There was love all around me, but I was looking for revenge
Thank God it never found me, would have been the end

Johnny was a school boy
When he heard his first Beatles song
Love Me Do I think it was
And from there it didn't take him long
Got himself a guitar
Used to play every night
Now he's in a rock 'n' roll outfit
And everything's alright

Don't you know.
Johnny walked through life
Like an hourglass bleeding sand
Google doesn't know what song these lyrics come from...Do any of you?

That's the song in post #6.
Mystery song lyric is in post #8.
I can see how the "Johnny"s might have caused some confusion there...

Apparently we edit our posts forever?

Yes.
Also new is the brief (~1 minute) window to edit a fresh post while the paint's still wet without a footnote that it's been edited. I kinda miss that.
The mystery lyric (in post #8) belongs to a song called 'Already Gone' (no not an Eagles cover) by the band Every Mother's Nightmare.

Already Gone by Every Mother's Nightmare
was pretty tasty., thanks man.
You're very welcome.
I think they were/are out of Nashville.

Instructions were unclear.
Re-thinking, in this case, means thinking about how the words of a song may have lost their relevance or innocence. In the example I gave, the tick line was to show how the idea of laying down in the tall grass, while romantic and poetic in the 70's, is now a game of Lyme disease roulette.
Or this nugget of co-dependency and low self-esteem from the Supremes:
Come See About Me
...I've given up my friends just for you
My friends are gone and you have too
No peace shall I find
Until you come back and be mine
No matter what you do or say
I'm gonna love you anyway...
Or, to switch to films, re-watching old John Hughes films where casual racism (Long Dong the Chinese exchange student played by a Japanese - well, they all look alike anyway - actor) was one of the lesser egregious things to get laffs. Certainly compared to Jake giving his drunk and unconscious girlfriend to Ted in exchange for Sam's underwear with the suggestion that he can have his way with her because she is too drunk to notice.
So, yeah, the thread is mainly about how our perceptions of culture as viewed through song lyrics have changed over time.
But, to carry the thread as boat analogy (you just launch them but you can't steer them) I guess this is what happens when you launch a thread without a rudder.
Carry on.

You gotta wonder if they were writing songs that they thought would appeal to 13 year old boys?
Remember the movie Blue Lagoon? A half naked Brooke Shields roaming around that desert island. As a 53 year old dude thinking about that, it's pretty creepy. But when that movie came out, I was two years younger than Brooke Shields, and nothing seemed more natural than to be attracted to her.

That's an interesting question, re: the author's voice. Like, we don't think novelists are serial killers for writing about it in the first person, but-- if you put it to music
And some things get a pass, like Pink Floyd's fascist rally in The Wall-- but I won't even post those lyrics here, on the chance they get me fired from my job somehow.

Well, I'd rather see you dead, little girl
Than to be with another man
You better keep your head, little girl
Or I won't know where I amYou better run for your life if you can, little girl
Hide your head in the sand, little girl
Catch you with another man
That's the end, little girlWell, you know that I'm a wicked guy
And I was born with a jealous mind
And I can't spend my whole life
Trying just to make you toe the lineYou better run for your life if you can, little girl
Hide your head in the sand, little girl
Catch you with another man
That's the end, little girlLet this be a sermon
I mean everything I've said
Baby, I'm determined
And I'd rather see you deadYou better run for your life if you can, little girl
Hide your head in the sand, little girl
Catch you with another man
That's the end, little girlI'd rather see you dead, little girl
Than to be with another man
You better keep your head, little girl
Or you won't know where I amYou better run for your life if you can, little girl
Hide your head in the sand, little girl
Catch you with another man
That's the end, little girl
Glatt's post reminded me of this, by Pat Travers:
***Verse1***
We had a love that was so good, Ooh should have been unlawful.
Yeah so good... or at least I thought so.
But now you got me running round in circles, and I'm so down on myself.
And you say that you won't be coming back... Won't be coming back to me baby.***Chorus***
Well I'd rather see you dead.
Erase you memory from my head.
Ooh I see you all alone, as cold as stone,
All alone!***Verse2***
You should have never had the chance, to fool with my emotions.
Just another victim of romance... Ooh and bad love potions.
And when I see you running around in circles, you're so high on yourself.
And you say that you won't be coming back... Won't be coming back to me baby.***Chorus***
Well I'd rather see you dead.
Erase you memory from my head.
Ooh I see you all alone, as cold as stone,
All alone!***SoLo***
***Chorus***

"Run For Your Life" Lennon's most regretted song.
Offline
He seemed like kind of an asshole and bully in real life, probably regrets that the song brought that into focus.

huh.
I accidentally was doing it right? I'll take it. This thread reminds me of the "Psycho Stalker Songs"
Like Stranglehold by Ted Nugent:Here I come again now baby
Like a dog in heat
Tell it's me by the clamor now baby
I like to tear up the street
Now I been smokin' for so long
You know I'm here to stay
Got you in a stranglehold baby
You best get oughta the wayThe road I cruise is a bitch now baby
But no you can't turn me round
And if a house gets in my way baby
You know I'll burn it downYou ran the night that you left me
You put me in my place
Got you in a stranglehold baby
You better trust your fateYeah sometimes you wanna get higher
And sometimes you gotta start low
Some people think they gonna die someday
I got news I've got to goCome on come on up
Come on come on up
Come on come on up
Come on come on up
Come on come on come on come on baby
Come on come on come on come on up
Come on come on come on come on baby
Come on come on come onRoad I cruise is a bitch now
You know you can't turn me round
And if a house gets in my way
You know I'll burn it downYou ran the night that you left me
You put me in my place
I got you in a stranglehold baby
That night I crushed your face

That's right out of the Access Hollywood Tape. To be fair, Nugent hasn't backed off this line of thinking. He's consistent anyway.
Too scared to turn your light out
'Cause there's something on your mind
Was that a noise outside the window?
What's that shadow on the blind?
As you lie there naked
Like a body in a tomb
Suspended animation
As I slip into your room
I'm your night prow--BLAM! BLAM!!BLAM!!!
