Infrastructure

A large part of our failing infrastructure is highways. Eisenhower saw the German Autobahns ability to move men and materiel quickly and pushed for the interstate system. They even had a model to go by in the Pennsylvania Turnpike the granddaddy of US superhighways which opened in 1940. It caused a lot of excitement in the construction, heavy equipment and trucking industries.
This article in The International Harvester Magazine hyped it's opening.

Build Back Better is supposed to include black communities this time, we can hope.

The turnpike is still pretty impressive.  They don't build them like that any more.
