The NYTimes piece starts out...
"Collaborating with devoted colleagues, Dr. Kariko laid the groundwork for the mRNA vaccines turning the tide of the pandemic."
I'm nominating that for the understatement of the year.
Her journey to the US with spouse, child, a PhD, and money hidden in a teddy bear. Bouncing around Philly begging for work, sure the mRNA would work decades before anyone would believe her. Her husband saying with all the nights and weekends spent in the lab she was making a dollar an hour. A real life superhero.

I thought we hated immigrants now?
Seriously, what a great story.

Wait, that's not a thing anymore? Dammit, I can't keep up with this stuff...

I think we still hate some of them I just don't know which ones, look what Dr Kariko went through. I guess we can hate 'em and still acknowledge when they do good, before denying a patent and deporting them. I don't know, I've got other people to hate.
The thread is Notable Women. Note: somewhere there is a painting growing old.
She's unhappy because all her costumes from the 70's when she was 106 lbs don't fit anymore but she can't bear to part with them. I imagine those costumes wouldn't fit if she had gained 6 ounces.

Both are admirable! Obviously, imbued with an inner strength (that I myself do not possess). Just wow.

I heard of MM using her stardom as a social wedge, or hammer, several times to fight social injustices...

Yes Sir, still notable. Probably any quicker than 8 days would cast suspicion on her.
Here's a notable badass...

I found this picture and because the way the caption was worded I searched to see if there was a Wanderwell brand car.
What a rabbit hole that turned out to be.
Aloha was a Canadian who holds the Guinness record for first woman to drive around the world.
Although technically she was part of a group and left the group for weeks on a couple occasions.
The website says she was a member of the French Foreign Legion. That’s bullshit, only one woman and it wasn’t her.
But then it got very interesting. How she met Walter, their travels, their marriage, how they financed this lifestyle, and his murder.
Killed an evening searching. LoL
PS it was a Model T Ford.
