Randall Munroe at xkcd illustrated a Saturn-5 rocket and describe it using only words from the Ten Hundred list of most commonly used words. Since the original is like 45 inches high I had to shrink it some but it's all there...er here.

I came here to post about his book "Thing Explainer," then realized when I went to link it that this comic was actually the first instance of the idea that inspired the book. Also, apparently certain bits from the book are now in Houghton Mifflin Harcourt science textbooks.

It's a cute book, but I like "What If?" better (and the sequel comes out soon!)

I got Thing Explainer for Christmas or something, and enjoyed reading it for a few hours.  I should have taken it out of the library though.
