Olde Technology

In the late 1850s the experts in Woodingdean were sure if they dug... er, I mean have others dig, a well it would hit water at 400 feet. They didn't. After digging several laterals without success the experts said go down deeper.
They dug for 24/7 for 4 years, used the well for 4 years then capped for good.

Re: Olde Technology

There's thems that dig and thems that have dug, alright.
I'd guess that 6 foot diameter is about the smallest possible to "hand dig."
400 feet.  1200 feet! Gah!!

The Cellar is big on "Have you ever" and "Need to know."
How deep are you going to be one that digs?
Me, maybe 20 feet.  Maybe less, once I got down that hole.

Re: Olde Technology

Forging is about as old a technology as it gets but the Germans have developed a way to do it faster, easier, safer, with larger pieces...
I wonder if they have a 300 lb waitress walking in front yelling hot stuff, watch your back, comin' through?
