Chia seeds. I had an unpleasant experience with them. They increased the size of my .... shall we say “output”? to an unfeasibly ginormous girth which I found truly alarming.

Re: My f'in LDL #

My HDL could come up just a tad, they said.  Walk 20 minutes a day, they said.

My LDL is 106, told me they like 100, a nice, round number I suppose.

I swear I replied to this.  did you post in both cellars?  these parallel universes are doing my head in.

I got 179   I already follow a low chol diet and do a 5K four times a week, two walking and two running.  My sis has high cholesterol too, so chances are it's genetic, which is not encouraging.  BP and pulse great, BMI not brilliant but not obese and heading in right direction. sigh.  Doc said keep on doing what I'm doing but........ I'd rather have seen a lower figure.  Oh well, onwards.  Ran this morning.  HATE running

So the nurse who rang said retest in 6 weeks.  So I tried even harder and went for the retest this week .....turns out the nurse had emphasized the wrong thing.  The retest was for something else that she mentioned as an aside and it didn't improve so I'm off to a specialist   I guess the nurse is so used to stressing the cholesterol thing she went into standard emphasis mode.  So my shitty week/life wasn't helped with getting a voicemail from the doc saying she wanted to discuss the results immediately followed by a message from oncology saying they could squeeze me in this month.  Turns out it was just hematology but the scheduler who called usually works the oncology side and forgot to change her standard spiel (anyone noticing a pattern here.....?)      sorry for the hijack

I'm sorry you're dealing with substandard health care advice and service.  I know everyone is just trying to do their best, but maybe they should try a little harder.

Re: My f'in LDL #

Forgot what my LDL is but enough for the Dr. to put me on statin. Told me I'm at risk for heart disease. Oh well.....I guess I better do research on better diet too.

Go Carnivore, our lab numbers have improved since since we started with this way of eating.

Re: My f'in LDL #

I feel like different folks can eat different things. I had gotten very red meat oriented until I got the LDL #. We'll see how it looks in April, but since increasing steel cut oatmeal, edamame, beans, broccoli, brussels sprouts, chia seed, flax seed and reducing red meat, pizza, bread etc... I've dropped under 170 lbs and my inflammation is better and my farts are magnificent.

Re: My f'in LDL #

Red meat and bread can be shooed away, but Pizza?
Avoiding Pizza is like pissing on the flag, stomping kittens, it's unAmerican.
This doesn't count does it?

Re: My f'in LDL #

Had some tests again.  A1C, cholesterol, and such.

A1C was down, to 6.0!  12.8 in July, 6.6 in October.   Woot, go me!

LDL was up, 110 from 106.

They had me pee in a cup, and then called me later and told me to come and get a Big Gulp-sized pee jug (jug, their word, medical term, I guess), and collect 24 hrs worth of m'pee.  Too much of some kind of protein or other.

Wonder what kind of kick in the nutz this'll turn out to be?

I had my follow up appointment. My new regimen got me down to 150 so far and I dropped 15lbs. Pretty chuffed.

Re: My f'in LDL #

I don't know what her cholesterol was (and most likely she didn't either, and that's the problem,) but a friend from high school just had to have a quadruple bypass a couple days ago.

She's 41 fucking years old. Always been overweight, but not that overweight.

Anyway, unrelated to my friend's health woes, I'm taking a garlic supplement now. Will be checking to see if my cholesterol numbers have gone down with it soon...

Gawd we're such a bunch of old farts now.

With a few geriatrics thrown in.

Erika!  we need rejuvenating.  No wait, she's fucking ancient now too.......
