My buddy who took our wedding photos bitd, is doing the chemo and radiation thing. The doctors think they caught it in time, but it's going to be a close thing. He described the results of chemo pretty vividly; it isn't great but then he dropped this pearl while we were chatting. "You'll never know the worse luck, your bad luck, has saved you from."

I would guess PC for your friend's cancer.
I don't really understand his comment, but the chemo and radiation approach has actually been the "worse luck" suffered by many of those afflicted.
I hope he has a doctor who is aware of that.

Chemo and radiation -whilst nasty- can keep you alive. And while you're stuck in a hospital going through those things, you are not innocently enjoying a nice meal in a restaurant when someone loses control of their car and crashes through the window killing you and 5 others. That's what he means.

...or killing your spouse and children but leaving you alive.....

He sent me a pic of him holding a tuft of hair. He thinks he'll look like me tomorrow, still sassy.

Hoping all is still going as well as it can
Beest didn't lose his hair from his chemo ...but he always said if he did, he was going to get little rabbits tattooed on his scalp.
