I found my first advantage to being 50 -in MI, we'll be eligible within a couple of weeks. technically next week because I am asthmatic, but I barely ever have to medicate, so I'm not going to jostle with those who do

All the surviving old-timers in my family have their first shot. this is good.

Got Pfized 2/24, next 3/17.
Wearing a mask costs nothing. And works.
Americans should have gotten the same results from having their heads up their asses.

You're not alone Henry, I heard a third of the active duty and reserve troops have refused.
Of course they are primarily young and healthy so they're betting it would be mild in not asymptomatic.
I don't have that option as contracting it would be a death knell because I can't walk on water like you.
But don't give up hope, covid-19 and it's children will be around for many many years.
PA has 67 counties but Philly is getting vaccine from the feds.

Yeah, Texas alone will be a great reservoir for new variants of the virus. Remember when Texas went to court because PA ran a free and fair election? We should sue their ass for this under the commerce clause. Degrasse Tyson compared it to having a peeing section in a swimming pool.

Now it's four weeks later, and there's not even a flicker of doom in Texas. Cases continue to fall:
Compare Pennsylvania, where cases almost doubled during the same period! But the rate seems to be be improving (possibly because about a quarter of us are fully vaccinated?):
Masks, do they even work? Or is the virus driven by waves and seasonality, and if you are at the end of the wave you can pretty much do what you want? That's what it seems like, but actually, we must admit don't know, because it's such a wildly multi-variate problem.
We want so hard to be in charge of it; and masking helps us pretend that is true. But the virus is in charge.
So *everyone* who has made a prediction about it has been humbled. Everyone. Even Neil deGrasse Tyson is hereby humbled by it, so us mere mortals have no chance.

They are finding that sunshine kills the shit out of this virus. Texas has that in spades but California should as well. I'm just hoping that we learn something from all this not just reinforce platitudes. I haven't looked at the numbers but heard a blurb on the news about Chile shitting the bed despite a strong vaccination program.

I got shot one of two from Moderna through work last week. The message was come to the building at 3 pm for your shot. I was there twenty minutes early and the line was around the block. The person monitoring the line counted noses working her way toward the end of the line. She stopped at the fellow just in front of me and said to him and the few people ahead of him, "You guys will be getting your shot today."
wtf.
She then turned toward me and the few people behind me and said, "But I need about ten people to stay as standby." This was completely different than the message I got that said to come for my shot, but I stayed anyhow. By the time we were within twenty people from the door, they gave us an assurance that we'd be getting our shot today. Then by the time I was at the intake table, they were having people phone their friends looking for four more people RIGHT NOW. Not sure if they got arms for all the shots, probably they did.
So I'm looking for another appointment in about three weeks for my second shot. I had minor soreness in the area around the injection site, but no other side effects of note.

Got an email from the county saying there are open slots for anyone in 1a or 1b categories. All three vaccines are available and gave the location to book for your choice of juice.
In two weeks it will be open to any adult who wants it.
This was issued to prove the politicians claiming lockdown/social distancing is making the suicide rate skyrocket were lying. Pretty good indication that flu, pneumonia, and respiratory deaths weren't misapplied too.

I'm surprised suicide went down.

The way I understand it, the psychology of the last year is "everything is on hold".
Which seems to have overridden the majority of depressive people's "everything is nothing at all."

No, that is a blatantly false statement. You are willfully distorting them for your agenda.

Self care is important. I, for one, love you for who you are. I don't believe in the crap you post that is crap, but I think you're smart and eloquent, *despite* the fact that our political cornerstones are on different continents/planets.

When a min-archist argues against governments roll in protecting Life, you're going to see some disconnects.
