Thanks all

Update - he has been back to vets another 3 times and ended up having to be sedated a second time because more nails detached. Turns out he has some sort of issue with his nails rather than him having just accidentally banged his foot.

All in all he has had 4 nails removed, including both dew claws, with 3 feet affected.

Up to Weds he had 3 bandaged feet. He now has no bandages but is wearing a cone. His front paw is very swollen, one of the claws is infected and he is on antibiotics and painkillers

Vet thinks it may be an autoimmune condition - there's a food supplement that is usually pretty good at strengthening the nails and I have ordered some.

Poor lad is feeling very sorry for himself and I am frikken exhausted lol

Carrot had a toenail hanging off - too attached to just remove it - sooooo sedation it had to be. Had to leave work to take him to the vets initially in the afternoon, 2 hours of emergency holiday then left him there came back home and logged back into work, then took another emergency 1 hour holiday at 6pm to go pick him up and then get back and log in for the final hour of my shift.

I mean, thank fuck I currently work mainly from home only going in for one day a week at the office, and also that he has insurance but cold have really done without the £160 excess and copay and having to put a bag over the bandage to keep it dry every time he goes out for the next 3 days,

Poor baby - he is so woozy.

I don't know you guys are coping down south - it's been pretty intolerable up here in Yorkshire, but I think you guys have a few degrees on us.

The nights are the worst - its too hot to sleep and an open window is pointless if there's no air movement

That is a dangerous song to listen to, less of an ear worm, more of an ear snake

Listen to this it'll knock it out of your head:
Fair warning it is in Mongolian but the closed captions are very good.

Also- take it fullscreen because the video looks gorgeous

This song is currently living rent free in my head most of the time

Are they just crap or do you have to sort actual traitors out like in the US?

Lying incompetents for the most part - arrogantly laying down laws they then break and getting caught in lie after lie -  but not much in the way of actual traitors. That said, Boris did meet with a Russian oligarch without officials

Given his stance on the Ukraine situation I find it hard to believe he is in Putin's pocket

Well, another Tory PM bites the dust

Not exactly sorry to see him go, but am not exactly thrilled by any of the current crop of Tories as a replacement.

It's amazing to me that a word as prosaic as window has such a poetic origin

The word 'window' comes from Old Norse and means 'wind eye'

I think what shocked me this time is that it was a court proceeding they were reporting on. I expect a degree of bullshit, partisan nonsense when reporting on politics - but I expect reports about court proceedings to be mostly accurate and based in fact (with disagreements over how to interpret those facts).

It also really pointed up how utterly out of touch a lot of media people seem to  be about social media, which is frankly bizarre

I haven;t been this mad at traditional ,media since the whole 'Jeremy Corbyn is an anti-semite' shitshow

Some of the coverage in legacy media is really infuriating. Particularly on the left - which is very disappointing.

I remember when the UK was considering allowing cameras in court about 15-20 years ago - and I was totally against it.  I have long been against allowing cameras in because of the potential for their presence to impact on trial. Now I have completely changed my mind. Had I not seen the live coverage, had I been dependent on the analysis of new outlets I in which I usually have a fair degree of confidence, I would have been consuming an entirely false and at times very cynically so, analysis of the situation.

I also feel somewhat aggrieved when I keep hearing the 'its all driven by misogyny  on social media' narrative - sorry, no, 50 year old lifelong feminist here calling bullshit. Yes, there have been some very nasty and misogynistic shit on TikTok and Youtube - but that's hardly a new phenomenon. The channels that promote that shit have latched onto this particular story to feed into their narrative. But that doesn't mean everybody who takes issue with Amber Heard is of or influenced by that ilk.  The majority of what I have seen online is people being very reasonably pissed off that this fake victim has first abused and then destroyed the career of an innocent man while parading herself as a battered woman, fake bruises and all.

Yeah it's been fucking eye opening

Heard's forensic psychologist shook me - it's like she couldn't conceive of a male victim of a female DV perpetrator.

I thought, I really did, that most people understood 'believe women' just meant interact with someone claiming to be a victim, on the assumption they are telling the truth and for those in police and judicial systems investigate thoroughly, rather than dismissing out of hand. Hearing that woman talk made me realise that some of the people working most closely with DV survivors, and even educating and advising others who deal with DV survivors, genuinely believe men are inherently suspect

I just can't even...

The silver lining to this cloud is it may actually encourage male victims to speak up and hopefully shine a light for professionals who should be there to support men who speak up.
