Nawww, they’re not going to shoot kids, they’re just going to shoot the smartphones out of their hands.

Almost self-fulfilling when you think about it.
Even in its long form, it's still shorter than anti-sesquipedalian.

[true story/no shit/there I was] Tasked to do an aerial video of a ground Tactical Operations Center (TOC) for camouflage evaluation, I was up in a Huey helicopter. The obliques were easy, just sit in the aircraft with the side doors open and shoot the video while flying in a circle around the TOC. Vertical video looking straight down over the TOC; however, was made a little more complicated by the Huey's landing skids being in the way.

The usual procedure involved donning a body harness that was tethered to the inside of the aircraft, standing on the skid, and leaning out 10 to 15 degrees for an unobstructed view with the camera. The length of the tethering strap was pre-adjusted. There I was, standing on the right-side skid and leaning out while shooting video of the TOC when...

The proximity alarm sounded in the cockpit indicating the Huey was too close to another aircraft. The pilot instantly followed standard procedure for avoiding a collision and made a hard right bank rolling the Huey over towards its side. I felt the skid dropping out from under my boots and a sense of leaving the aircraft.  A moment later I was slamming the inside of the aircraft as the crew chief had grabbed my tethering strap and yanked me back in with all the strength he could muster. A second later and I probably would have ended up hanging against the fuselage.

The Huey was now way over towards its side and looking straight out the side door was to be looking almost straight down. I saw below us another Huey, with its side doors open, also making an emergency right bank and rolled way over towards its side. I could see through its open doors to the ground. I glanced back over my shoulder at the crew chief and through the open door on the other side (now facing up) I saw yet another Huey with its side doors open, making an emergency right bank and rolled over towards its side. I could see through its open doors to the sky.

The pilot was cursing the congested air corridor, my

For some government purposes, you only need a year and a half to count UK work credits you may have earned (your husband may have earned if filing under his entitlements) towards Social Security. Best to get that paperwork together as early as possible for use when you reach retirement age.  The US Totalization Agreement with the UK says in part:

Benefits from the United States - If you do not have enough work credits under the U.S. system to qualify for regular benefits, you may be able to qualify for a partial benefit from the United States based on both United States and United Kingdom credits. However, to be eligible to have your U.K. credits counted, you must have earned at least six credits (generally one and one-half years of work) under the U.S. system.

I expect you're hoping for more than Social Security; but, if it's applicable to you, the above is good to know and prepare for now as a fallback position.

Don't forget about that time when Iraqis had fake WMD that fooled Americans into attacking their country.

Which is why there are catch-all phrases like: "Everything in moderation", "Too much of anything can be a bad thing" and  "Be concerned but don't worry."

Somewhere along the line, most kids will learn this from others. Those that the village fail to teach will fall by the wayside; unless, they've figured out how to "Adapt and survive" by themselves.

It's just pathetic when the village resorts to scapegoating for its failures.

Not so much story idea when you consider that either the kids, their kids, or their grandchildren will also need to have developed a method for adapting to the singularity and its free market ramifications.

The phones are a catalyst in natural selection. Not all kids adapt. Some do, some don't. Some will, some won't. We can increase their chances by working with them, rather than against the technology, so they can achieve balance as an adjunct to survival.

I was going to send the website link to William so he could try the Googly Eye technique out on Kate; but, it seems none of the Royal Family is staffed to process emails from the public. One would have to print out the website pages, attach a cover letter, and send it by snail mail. I like them... but not that much.

For stuff that’s built correctly in the first place, you have to check the label and make sure it says “Made in the 1950s.”

With stuff like that, you have to buy two of them; so, you'll have a backup when one fails. If it's something you depend on and it won't break the bank, a second one will allow you to carry on while the first one is being repaired or replaced.
I have backups; or, alternate means stored away for a lot of things with which doing without at an inopportune time would cause considerable aggravation. That's just the way it is nowadays since fewer things on the market are dependable.

I'm using a firm, king size, Sears-O-Pedic Imperial Elite which is an individually pocketed coil spring mattress that takes two (side by side) foundations. They were made by Sealy. It still looks and feels great. The mattress cost $399.99, the dual foundation cost $400.00, sales tax was $55.35, and the delivery fee was $20 for a total of $875.34.

I took delivery on FEB 28 1987. I think it turned out to be a good value. They probably don't make 'em like that anymore. I may still even have the receipt. : )))

Being a humble person, I self-identify using the indefinite pronoun "No one" in conversations.

If I mistakenly refer to someone by the wrong pronoun, I'll apologize by saying "No one is sorry."

If someone pursues the matter after the apology, I'll offer reassurance by saying "No one cares."

If someone further protests even after the reassurance, I'll say "No one loves you."

This is a kindness.

His daughter, the beautiful Ivanka, isn't a part of his political entourage anymore; so, he's not going to get the dirty-old-man vote to carry him into office like before. You have absolutely nothing to worry about. In fact, you don't even have to bother to go out and vote... others will take care of it for you.
