Our party-line phone was constantly monitored by two busy-bodies up the road. That was small town living.

So the Tik-Tok legislation is going through. I'm coming around to flint's view of this. If you think about it in terms of surveillance capitalism  working with the surveillance state you can see some poor outcomes on this especially as we creep up on Trump's intended lifetime appointment. Not to pull an old man yelling at the sky but the internet was supposed to be distributed not run by all these monopolies.

I guess we couldn't expect his nonsense to stay contained on YouTube with a generation of folks left to target. If they were to attempt to remake the world in the image of a right wing schism of the Catholic Church our country would be ungovernable.

Cybertruck really just focuses me on what one idiot has done to what could have been a great manufacturing company.

So I gave up on the OTC in ear hearing aids which I had replaced my super expensive behind the ear Oticons with. I went with Starkey Genisis in ear which had really good sound. They errored out on me so I'm on loaner rechargeable Oticons until my Starkey's are replaced. I'm hoping this doesn't turn into a shitstorm.

So this is getting serious now. My Dad is, thankfully, not on the internet. He is a right wing Catholic because he lives in an extreme right wing diocese, he's easily manipulated and used to be kept out of trouble by my mom before she passed. He was reading his Catholic paper when I dropped in last night and he quotes, I shit you not, Jordan Peterson criticizing the Pope in his fucking Catholic newspaper. It would appear that The Grift, is combining with religion for a meta-grift. Rogan did an interview with Carlson who is apparently on board as well.  crap

Pete and I took a hard look at what retirement was gonna look like and we realized we need the mountains if we are going to stay active. I pulled a  chunk out of my 401K last week which is eventually going into construction costs. The odd part for me is that particular pile of cash was earned in the late eighties. I don't even know that dude.

Dickey showed up unannounced at a dive bar in Scranton my friends and I were hanging out at. He played a set with the band. Peace.

Who knows what regionalisms we've got. The little motor on the ice cream churn is like the milk pump motor my Grampa had.

It could just be guys of a certain age (me) who find them both annoying and distracting should be rid of them.

Why would you ever want a narrow stance, other than fitting into a tight parking spot?  Seems like wide stance and its increased stability would always be the way to go.

It may be a shipping thing?

Poppin(g) Johnnies - My Dad's uncles had John Deere tractors. They had 2(?) big cylinders and a large flywheel. Very cool sound and good solid tractors. Hit or miss is an engine speed control not on JDs.

Next up for my Kubota is widening the wheel stance by swapping sides and flipping my rims. In its previous life the tractor sat outside so I'm going to have to hit everything with liquid wrench before we start.

The Washington Post put up reader pics of the eclipse. One of the best was from New Russia the unincorporated town we're in up North. We're technically part of Elizabethtown.

Here's mine. The dogs hid under the car, the birds went quiet, and the mosquitos came out.

I'll give it a shot. Screens and the attention economy are a next level threat. Drugs, alcohol, romance novels, motorcycles, and wood working equipment only impact particular small percentages of the population. Screens are everywhere, in pockets, purses, restaurant walls, desks, cars, bicycles, classrooms, selling, propagandizing, insinuating into every situation reducing our attention to the Now.

The question is are we controlling the screen or is the screen controlling us. As adults we like to think we're in charge of our technology, but to what extent can middle schoolers even fake that?

Some good stuff is going to come of the free flow of information and some really shitty stuff is coming from the free flow of dis/misinformation. How that plays out is going to rely on individual education and ego. We have to be educated enough to recognize what we don't know and avoid ego driven responses. This does not describe a pre-teen brain.

I'm glad you're grabbing your moment.

I had this conversation with my cycling buddy this afternoon. He retired from teaching 6 or 7 years ago. He's been kept overly busy by his handyman gig ever since. Somehow he has finally realized his mortality. He's going to start taking his SS and wind down his gig so he can do the fun stuff he meant to when he retired. He pointed to his kayak hanging on the wall, "That hasn't moved in 3 years."
